Reports of a bright object hovering have been identified as Sceye's ST1, a High-Altitude Platform System (HAPS)
View In AppJust after 2 p.m. on September 4, six independent witnesses across San Diego reported a bright, seemingly stationary object hovering low in the sky, with the sightings occurring within roughly 20 minutes of one another.
Reports came from Barrio Logan, the SDSU area, University Heights, La Mesa, and National City. Witnesses described a shiny orb or oval that appeared to rotate in place and remained stationary for 20–30 minutes before disappearing.
Public flight-tracking data confirms Sceye's ST1, a High-Altitude Platform System (HAPS) operating in the stratosphere at 16.5 km (54,000 ft), was over San Diego County at the time, passing near the reported sighting area around 2:10 p.m., closely aligning with the timing of the witness reports. This case is now marked identified.
